April 27 ~ 332 days in FoalSage has made some significant changes in the last 32 hours. She is very stoic and only shows tiny changes in her behavior to clue you in on the impending birth. She gets pretty large udders, but no milk into the nipple until the foal is born. She is all tucked in, fluffed up with soft bedding and heat lamp on ('cuz it will be 45 tonight...in TEXAS...in APRIL!). Belly has dropped and moved back; milk vein standing at attention! She likes to foal about 4am, so I will check on her a few times during the night to see where she is at. Hopefully we should see a foal in the next few days!

May 1 ~ 336 days in Foal
Tonight may just be the night! Sages' udders were huge this morning. Came in floppier, but she has not foaled yet with a full bag under there. She was very agitated tonight, crampy and had her ears back focused on her belly while she was eating.
Will check throughout the night on her...

May 3 ~ 338 days in Foal
Sage is progressing....tonight her udders did not go down much after being out all day. Last night she did not eat her hay and tonight she is quietly munching - stopping here and there to pick her head up and focus on her belly. She is very agitated, shifting her weight alot and flicking her tail.
Hopeing we don't do the 4am thing - but don't mind if we could just have that baby tonight!

May 5 ~ DUE DATECome'on Sage!! She stayed in today because of rain (did not want her to decide to foal out in the bad weather!). She slept alot and was very quiet all day. I turned her out this evening in the small grass pasture next to the barn, and she just stood at the gate to come back in. She looks slab-sided and I can see a shadow of her ribs, so that baby is getting into position! Her muscles all around her tail and her rear are like gello, nice and loose - ready for that baby to make an exit! Will be up watching her tonight...lets' hope for a foal by morning!

Sage has a gorgeous colt, foaled 2am this morning. He is half Kiger, half Lusitano - our long awaited Hipogrifo colt! Super sweet and easy going, I just can't wait to see how this guy matures! Very tall (44"), long long legs, and stripes galore like his momma....and the great Hipo head I love! Sneak peek:
