Okay, I belive this is the calm before the storm!!
Four foals on the ground.....Lynns' Kiger mare, Mari, had a gorgeous grulla filly this week! Finally - seem to be saying that alot this year! SIX more to go if you can belive it - I am having a hard time doing so myself!
Mommas' filly, Dory, is doing very well. You would not belive she is just over a week old, she looks like she is a month or more. They have been in the small grass pasture next to the barn, but this afternoon, they got to go out with the herd for a few hours. Dory seemed to enjoy the larger area and I know she will have fun exploring the whole 30 acres!
Chilli and her colt, Nitro, got to go out in the small pasture when Momma and Dory were turned out. Nitro has had some leg stuff that is getting better, but he needed to be in a smaller area for awhile, so he stayed in the large foaling pen during the days. Being he was early, his bones in his back legs need to catch up to the tendon length - every day he is better!
Mari and her filly, Cali, are still in the large foaling pen, but maybe tomarrow they can get out in the small pasture for awhile. Unfortunately, Picasa is taking up the other small grass pasture with her leg strain, so we have to rotate between the mares.
Morgans' colt, Zues, is a month old today, and it seems as if the nights will now stay warm in the 70's, so the plan is for them to just stay out 24/7. They will be brought in of course if we have cold or storms.
Picasa is still playing games....big boobies overnight, deflated ones in the evenings. She is staying up in the small area and then in a stall at night. Going through her gut conditioning also...
The other mares will start to come in at night now and do thier gut conditioning plus get used to being up at night and resting. We like the mares to be in thier foaling areas at least 2 weeks before foaling so they can build up natural antibodies to that area.
Will try to get some new picts tomarrow and post so everyone can see how the foals are already growing!
